Wildlife sightings 11 February 2016

Notes from the Discovery Centre team – Claudia

We are still looking out for gannets! Several members of staff have seen them circling the Bass Rock but so far we haven’t manage to see them on camera. Unfortunately we only have one camera on Bass Rock at the moment but as soon as the weather allows we will reinstall the other cameras, which are back from maintenance. This will hopefully increase the chance of seeing the first gannet. Keep your eyes peeled!

On Craigleith we regularly spot some seals hauling out. And of course this time of year we have a multitude of gulls looking back at us. Seals are also spotted in Dunbar harbour where they swim along with the eider ducks.

Fidra is keeping us busy. The peregrines are making a daily appearance, as are the fulmars but last week we could spot our first few guillemots on Fidra! Birds are definitively coming back and we had our first sighting of the year of our beloved shag ‘Blue ZCA’ Charlie on the Isle of May.
